“Philosophy” and evidence-based orthodontics, es un artículo escrito por el Dr. Sheldon Peck (Harvard), y honestamente es tan incisivo, que decidí que fuera el primero de varios artículos con los cuales hice mi presentación de “Dogmas vs Evidencias en Ortodoncia” (o actualmente conocida como “Orthohacker no tienes la evidencia correcta, yo te la haré llegar”). El artículo del Dr. Peck fue escrito en 1997, empiecen a hacer cuentas, en el cual el mismo Peck menciona como la ciencia ha evolucionado mientras la nuestra querida ortodoncia vive el boom de las filosofías. Sobre como la ortodoncia ha tenido un retroceso de la “era de la ciencia” a la “era de la propiedad”. El artículo menciona que argumentos como “mi filosofía” y “mi escuela de pensamiento” eran validos hace 90 años. El documento fue publicado en 1997, menos los 90 años que menciona Peck, nos ubican en 1907. Hoy estamos en el 2014 y es muy fácil encontrar a ortodoncistas que aun piensan así. El rol de la sonrisa posada en la estética facial
Seguimos con artículos sobre sonrisa, y de hecho es otro de James McNamara, llamado The role of the posed smile in overall facial esthetics, publicado en el Angle Orthodontist en el 2010, en el cual analizan el rol de la sonrisa posada en la estética facial.

Reacciones severas al níckel en ortodoncia
Ya habíamos colocado un artículo sobre la alérgia al níquel en ortodoncia, ahora traemos un artículo llamado A Severe Reaction to Ni-Containing Orthodontic Appliances escrito por Olga Elpis Kolokithaa; Evangelia Chatzistavroub y publicado por el Angle Orthodontist.
La exposición a los aparatos de ortodoncia que contienen níquel puede causar reacciones alérgicas intra o extraoral. El níquel es el antígeno más típico implicado en la causa de la dermatitis alérgica de contacto.
